UN in Focus Newsbrief N0. 4/2010 June 2010 Quick Links FES NY Events FES NY Publications More About Us Dear Friends, In the run-up to the G20 Leaders Summit in Toronto later this month, the FES will engage in a variety of activities in Toronto. First, on June 22nd the FES launches two new publications:"Canadian Perspectives on Global Economic Governance and the G20", which draws from Canadian academia, policy circles, advocacy organizations, media and elected representatives, and"The G20: A Global Economic Government in the Making?" Second, on June 23rd the FES, the Munk School of Global Affairs and the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies(CERES) at the University of Toronto will host a day-long conference on"Making the Case for Global Economic Governance", which will feature discussions on job creation and social standards, the role of parliaments in global economic governance, and taming financial markets. Those of you who will be in Toronto at that time are very welcome to attend these events. Here in New York, the FES will co-host a conference on financing the UN in times of economic insecurity, which will take place on June 16th. Looking back, the FES and the Columbia Business School held a day-long conference on governance, executive compensation and excessive risk in the financial services industry. These topics have been put on the global agenda since the G20 Summits in London and Pittsburgh in 2009. At the Toronto Summit, the G20 will deliberate reports by the IMF on possible financial sector contributions for future government interventions, and by the Financial Stability Board on reviewing the implementation of compensation policies.
