The events of the war in Syria have been documented to a historically unprecedented extent, due to the great technological progress of our times. Modern means of communication transferring information to the world in real-time through Youtube, social networks and other online platforms have helped international journalists and political analysts to monitor the events in Syria without being physically present on the ground, avoiding the risks and dangers that local journalists face when gathering information in conflict zones. Here lies the importance of the citizen-journalist, who appeared with the spread of affordable, mobile technology and more immediate channels of communication. These ordinary citizens gather, transfer and disseminate news without having a professional media background, but based on their dedication to the cause and physical presence at the place of the event. For these citizen-journalists this manual was written. It acquaints them with the fundamental principles of journalism and creative reporting, especially in light of the conflict context they are operating in.
