Abstract
The COVID-19 outbreak is expected to have a devastating impact on the informal economy in sub-Saharan Africa, which employs almost 90 per cent of the regions labour force. African governments have taken drastic measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, and to protect human lives and national economies, albeit often ignoring the needs of informal economy workers. This FES report examines how informal economy workers and enterprises have been affected by COVID-19, analyses response measures from an informal economy perspective, and provides policy recommendations.
