Zusammenfassung
Although Jordanian youth constitute almost 60% of the Jordanian population, their political influence is still absent. Since the Arab spring reached Jordan in 2010, the Jordanian Monarchy has encountered different obstacles to enhance and implement reform plans. One of the main problems that Jordan faced was lack of political participation of youth, especially among university students. This policy paper highlights the diverse reasons of this phenomenon in Jordan. It provides a unique historical and legal back ground of student unions in Jordan and highlights the role played over the years by state and society in the intimidation process to exclude youth from the political life in Jordan. Moreover, the policy paper brings recommendations forward on how to deal with this dilemma, how to restore the trust of youth in their state and how to ensure stronger political participation of these youth in the future.
