Zusammenfassung
On March 17, the Israeli electorate will chose a new parliament (Knesset). Whereas it was Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Likud-party headed by him who initiated early elections after many years in power, this time a center-left coalition has realistic chances to emerge out of the coming elections. This is due to the diversification of the political landscape in Israel, which has led to an increased number of parties outside the traditional right-left scheme and thus to a multitude of potential coalitions. On the other hand, Prime Minister Netanyahus focus on Irans nuclear program while neglecting domestic and socio-economic issues is viewed with growing scepticism among the Israeli population, argues Eytan Schwartz.
