Abstract
Total and partial lockdowns, border closures, social distancing were some of the mitigating measures governments globally imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19. In Sub-Saharan Africa, these measures affected both the formal and informal sectors of the economy. Some firms reacted by adopting close-downs, layoffs, reduced wages, working from home, and reduced working hours strategies to keep afloat. This policy brief commissioned by the FES Ghana Office reveals the employment effect of COVID-19 in Ghana and provides some policy options.
