Zusammenfassung
The state spends 0.4% of the GDP on elderly care, which has been slowly increasing in the recent years. The demand for elderly care is constantly growing in Hungary due to demographic changes. The number of 65+ population was about 1.8 millions in Hungary in 2018. More and more elderly people are in the need of home based or residential care services. However, since 2010 the number of places in public residential care has not increased, therefore the care deficit is constantly growing. As professional care receive low payments, the number of unoccupied places in the care sector is growing. The estimated number of family members providing home care is about 400-500.000. However, only 20.000 of them receive nursing allowance.
