Dear Friend:

The American Committee for Christian Refugees is writingyou at this time to assure you of its continuing interestand wish to be of service during these critical times. The fact that the United States is now at war with Japan ,Germany and Italy has given rise to many exaggeratedrumors regarding the probable fate of clients fromthose countries. We wish to emphasize the public state-ments of several officials that our government is takingcareful precautions to see that all non- citizens comingunder the category of" enemy alien" who strictly observeall rules prescribed by the Attorney General will notbe interned or subjected to undue hardship because ofalien status.

In a speech in Detroit on December 7th, Attorney GeneralBiddle made it clear that there was no reason for aliensloyal to the United States to be unduly concerned. Mr.Biddle stated:" It is no secret that the Department of Justice has made plans for the protection of enemy aliensin case of a more severe emergency. We have good reasonto believe that most aliens in our country are peacefuland law abiding. We will apprehend the alien troublemakers, but we will protect the others against persecutionand discrimination."

Refugees from enemy countries, that is Germany , Japan ,Italy and Austria , and natives of those countries whoare now considered stateless, come under the classifi-cation of" enemy alien." The American Committee forChristian Refugees is here to help you in every possible. Please bring your questions to use and be assured of oursincere understanding and earnest desire to serve thebest interests of all concerned.
