PERSPECTIVE Right-wing Extremism in Central Europe An Overview Merin Abbass/ Kate ř ina Tvrdá/ Václav Walach/ Bartosz Rydli ń ski/ Tomáš Nociar December 2011 n In the newly emerging democracies of Central Europe, such as Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, new political entities have formed, including a number of right-wing, nationalist and extremist entities. n Right-wing extremist organisations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are often registered as civic associations or political parties. In Poland, the radical right has no legal basis, operating only on a semiformal platform. n These organisations pose a threat to the new emerging democracies in Central Europe and thus coherent policies are needed to combat them.
