Modernising Journalists’ Trade Unions in Pakistan for the Digital Age A Mapping of Challenges, Needs, and Solutions Rating the Performance of Unions for Core Functions: Defense of journalists/media workers’ rights in courts Many respondents(79) said that in terms of defending journalists/media workers’ rights the unions are often compliant but could be better, 52 of the journalist respondents replied that there was tokenistic compliance while 43 said that unions are totally non-compliant in defending journalists in the courts. The remaining 41 respondents said in terms of defending journalists’ rights the unions are fully compliant while 35 said they were compliant to a large degree.
