A N A LY S I S LABOR AND SOCIAL JUSTICE In Latin America, care has been recognized as a human right: the right to care, to be cared for, and to take care of oneself. The Right to Care. From Recognition to its Effective Exercise Laura Pautassi March 2023 How is it possible that an activity that is central to life is recognized as a right? Does the fact that it is a right contribute to creating obligations, or is it simply an expression of good political and social will? Formulating care as a human right breaks away from the naturalization of the role of women as caregivers and conceives it as a universal right under an individual's condition as a person. The recognition of care is not up for debate. It is an obligation and a social duty that should be equitably distributed.
