STUDY DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS YOUTH IN JORDAN FES MENA Youth Study: Results Analysis Mohammad Aburumman and Walid Alkhatib March 2023 Religiosity and conservatism are prevalent among young people and have certainly influenced the way in which they view the government. Youth were found to most strongly favour a governmental system based on Sharia law or a combined democratic and Islamic system over a purely democratic one. Young people were found to trust more traditional institutions, such as the family and military more than representative institutions, such as parliament and civil society. The climate emergency in Jordan is at the forefront of the younger generation’s minds. While to many it seems like a hopeless endeavour, youth are eager to advocate for climate change solutions.
