A N A LY S I S ECONOMY AND FINANCE FEMINIST ECOLOGICAL ECONOMICS For a Just and Sustainable Future in MENA and Beyond Farah Daibes September 2023 Capitalist economic theories and practices have shaped our globalized socio-eco­nomic system and normal­ized the exploitation of wom­en’s labor, the extraction and destruction of nature, and neocolonial governance within our global financial system. The majority of people in the MENA region, as in much of the rest of the Global South, bear the brunt of the social, economic, and ecological crises caused by these sys­tems of oppression and ex­ploitation. Implementing feminist eco­logical economic models and employing economic in­dicators that account for both ecological and social wellbeing is imperative in ad­dressing the crises at hand and fostering a more just and sustainable world.
