TRADE UNIONS IN TRANSFORMATION 4.0 LABOUR AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ORGANISING ­YOUTUBE A novel case of platform worker organising Valentin Niebler and Annemarie Kern September 2020 Content creators are part of a globally dispersed workforce on global platforms. Confronted with unilateral changes to remuneration (working conditions), a group of YouTubers managed to suc­cessfully organise and formed the ›YouTubers Union‹(YTU). In cooperation with the ­German trade union IG Metall, negotiations with YouTube and Google were conducted, thereby showing glimpses of how successful organising in this new environment might be conducted.
