Abstract
  • The economic and diplomatic ties between the People's Republic of China and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have strengthened substantially in recent years in various fields such as energy, trade, and investments. Yet, the growing Chinese-Saudi bilateral relationship, elevated to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership, faces considerable obstacles as well, especially the close ties Saudi Arabia has traditionally forged with the United States. This paper therefore sheds light on the recent history of the Chinese-Saudi relationship, predominant perceptions of China in Saudi Arabia as well as challenges and chances for future relations.
