Climate change is threatening the livelihoods of farmers and pastoralist communities in the Central Sahel, Horn of Africa, and East Africa regions. Meteorological records show rainfall anomalies, temperature rise, flooding, and drought, intensifying resource-related conflicts and environmental deterioration. Climate change influences human mobility trends in these regions, including rural-urban, cross-border labor migration, forced displacement, pastoralist movements, and planned relocations. Climate hazards are forcing nomadic communities to shift towards sedentary and agrarian livelihoods, leading to conflict-inflicted displacement. Policy responses to climate mobility in these regions are still evolving, with recent developments like the IGAD Transhumance Protocol and the Kampala Ministerial Declaration promising but not holistically addressing all climate-related mobility forms.
