Our world is changing. One of the regions most affected by geopolitical developments of our time is the Middle East. For some time now, the US has been withdrawing more and more, while other actors such as China have been stepping up their game. In fact, regional powers are increasingly negotiating the regional order among themselves. Powerful actors like Saudi Arabia and Iran continue to expand their influence in the world, while crisis-ridden countries like Lebanon are not only suffering from certain geopolitical implications but also from internal political failures that have led the country to the abyss. Furthermore, the war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine for more than a year is also shifting certainties and dependencies. In several workshops with high-level speakers, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung together with the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy of the American University of Beirut (AUB) dealt with these and other questions regarding current geopolitical implications.
