Zusammenfassung
In recent years, several states around the world have committed themselves to feminist foreign and development policies. To name a few: Sweden, Libya, Mexico, and Germany. These policies aim to promote gender equality in foreign relations, which have often been built on structures of power and exploitation. Although the initiatives are commendable and welcomed by African feminists, this essay demonstrates that the mere adoption of laws and policies is not enough. In many cases their implementation is lacking and there are still large gender gaps around the world, which are partly exacerbated by development cooperation projects. The essay takes a critical look at the current approaches of feminist foreign policies and gives recommendations on how to rather shape them in a transformative way.
