Online food delivery, as seen in most big cities around the world, has become part of the future of work developed by digital platforms. It is praised for providing new opportunities for workers and restaurant entrepreneurs. However, whether the jobs provided by this industry offer decent working conditions remains questionable. This study takes a close look at on-demand food delivery in Thailand. Most interestingly, it addresses the key challenges of this job: increasing competition, a high risk of accidents and overall uncertainty. Moreover, it describes how workers have informally organized themselves to support each other and attempted to take control of their work conditions.
