Abstract
The EU-wide inequality of income has long been a salient issue in European politics. Following years of stagnation, the inequality of income finally started declining again in 2017, reaching its lowest level since the 2007 Eastern enlargement in the year 2019, just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the continent. This report first provides a statistical analysis of the inequality of income in the years pre-2020, before assessing the impact of the pandemic. Taking the disparities of growth between member states into account, the report calculates that the pandemic slowed down the previous decline in the EU-wide inequality of income, but did not reverse it.
