Zusammenfassung
As in many experiences of disaster, gender has become an important dimension that contributes to the vulnerability but is also often overlooked in various relief efforts. This is true also in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, which is yet to be equipped with a comprehensive gender based approach. It is thus imperative to implement a gender-based approach to understand the pattern and distribution of the vulnerability in order to form an effective response to pandemic towards the different needs between women and men. This shall be taken into account since during crisis the unequal gender social norms could exacerbate gender inequality that has prevailed prior to the crisis. Consequently, gender issues are not a priority in addressing the pandemic, which include problems of increase domestic work burden, gender-based risk and exposure to the virus, gender-based violence, to the impact in economy and impoverishment faced by women. This study was conducted to understand the social and gender dimension of this pandemic among women, especially those in the informal sector.
