This study investigates one aspect of Albania's intense and diverse experience of emigration which has received less attention: the movement of students to follow their higher education abroad. Despite the existence of public universities in all of the country's major towns (Tirana, Shkodra, Elbasan, Durrës, Korça, Vlora and Gjirokastra), as well as a recent expansion of private and franchised institutions, mainly concentrated in Tirana, Albania has one of the highest rates of 'exporting' its students in Europe.
