Zusammenfassung
The reality of Syrian refugee women in Lebanon is complex, and so is the question of their return. Syrian women displaced to Lebanon face unstable security, economic and legal conditions, as well as issues of gender roles, discrimination, stigma and belonging in both Lebanon and Syria. Utilising an intersectional feminist framework, this research explores the different factors which Syrian women take into consideration when contemplating so-called voluntary return from Lebanon to their home country. Based on field research in Lebanon, the study critically examines different political, social and economic structures of oppression as identified through the perspectives of women refugees in Lebanon. Beyond material conditions and the associated push and pull factors for return, sentimentality and feelings play a role just as crucial in the women’s multi-layered decision-making process.
