Zusammenfassung
The proportion of people over the age of 65 may reach a quarter of the population by 2030 in Hungary, and not only the elderly is affected: a quarter of the adult population has an elderly relative who needs to be cared for weekly. Alongside the increasing need for care services, there is a growing need for independent living support services, and for the organization of health and loneliness activities. Aging not only creates new tasks but also new opportunities for municipalities: retirees are becoming healthier and better educated, so their free time and expertise is a resource for the municipality.
The brochure, broken down by major needs, illustrates what municipalities can do - beyond their statutory responsibilities - for the elderly, for many and acute problems (care, health, loneliness) and for the smaller (housing, transport, poverty) or toward less acute (security) problems. Even with limited resources, the municipality can do much to coordinate civil and state actors, coordinate services, support civic initiatives, inform the elderly and caring family members.
