Zusammenfassung
Women in Asia experience massive structural disadvantages, from early childhood education through their retirement from work. It is mainly women who are exploited as cheap labor in Asia’s export industries and low-skill sectors. The rapid technological transformation is altering the future of work and offers opportunities but also risks for certain industrial sectors. In Thailand, women are particularly vulnerable and disproportionally affected by these changes. The country has adopted economic strategies to overcome its the middle-income trap. However, the strategies which deal with issues like digitalization, green growth and ageing society mostly ignore the profound gender segregation of Thailand’s labor force. This research paper reflects the concerns of Thailand’s women workers and highlights possible interventions.
