  • Der Libanon erlebte bereits im März 2005 einen »Arabischen Frühling«, in dem die damalige Regierung durch Massenproteste gestürzt wurde. Unter der folgenden politischen Polarisierung und der Blockade staatlicher Institutionen leidet das Land bis heute. Insbesondere die Jugend ist enttäuscht von ihren Politiker_innen und desillusioniert, was den Sturz von Regimes anbelangt. Dies mag ihre große Skepsis gegenüber den Umbrüchen des Arabischen Frühlings von 2011 und den Folgen, insbesondere im Bürgerkriegsland Syrien, erklären.
Abstract
  • To better understand the situation of youth in the MENA region, the FES conducted a large representative survey among young people in eight countries in 2016. This study presents selected results of the survey in Lebanon. Lebanon experienced an "Arab Spring" as early as March 2005, when the government of the time was overthrown by mass protests. The country is still suffering from the ensuing political polarisation and the blockade of state institutions. Young people are disappointed in their politicians and disillusioned with the overthrow of regimes. This may explain their great scepticism towards the upheavals of the Arab Spring of 2011 and its consequences, especially in Syria, a country at civil war.
