  • The educational system in both parts of the island is often criticized for still promoting enemy stereotypes and not preparing the youth for a reunification of the island as well as for a peaceful coexistence. Furthermore, it is argued that without reforms in the educational systems lasting peace and a smooth functioning of a reunified Cyprus will not be possible.
    The authors of the publication illustrate how peace education can be a vehicle for bringing structural changes and transformation to the Cypriot society across the divide. Through this a Culture of Peace could be cultivated and sustained. The publication presents case studies from Europe and other parts of the world with a history of conflict where currently peace projects are being implemented. A special emphasis will be put on projects and best practices providing solutions for challenges in peace education since they can be very useful for the Cypriot education system once educational changes have been implemented.
