Abstract
Brazils role on the Security Council reflected its traditional diplomatic principles focusing on multilateralism, peace, respect for sovereignty and the promotion of human development. The issues on the Councils agenda that accordingly were of most highest relevance to Brazil were the Peacekeeping Operation in Haiti (MINUSTAH), the Israel-Palestine conflict, the Iranian nuclear issue, sanctions against Libya and the reform of the UN-SC. Furthermore Brazilian engagement in the G4, IBSA and BRICS have strengthened Brazils international position; also with regard to its aspiration of a permanent seat on the UN-SC.
