Labour migration is an important source of income in Asia. Women in particular leave their home countries to seek employment in other Asian countries. They are often subjected to multiple forms of discrimination, however. It would not do justice to the complexities of their social position to ascribe these forms of discrimination exclusively to their gender. The study »Understanding Multiple Discrimination against Labour Migrants in Asia« by Sohoon Lee and Nicola Piper applies an intersectional approach to analyse labour migration in Asia. This perspective opens up the view to the multiplicity of discriminatory mechanisms and complex identities of female labour migrants in Asia. The study thereby presents insights that are relevant beyond the Asian context.
