Zusammenfassung
Nigerian politics is still largely a mens affair. While women hold key cabinet positions in Abuja, their representation in the legislature and executive arms of government is negligible. Going by comparative statistics of women contestants in 2007 and 2011 general elections, there was an impressive rise in the number of women seeking competitive elective positions in 2011. The rise could be as a result of varieties of sensitisation and mobilisation workshops organised for women ahead of the 2011 elections by different organisations including the INEC. Be that as it may, there is still need for national and international NGOs, government ministries and agencies, political parties and INEC to double their efforts in ensuring that women are equal part of Nigerias political sphere.
