The authors of this report focus on various issues in relation to the recent gas findings in the Eastern Mediterranean. Using individual examples and country studies, problematic aspects are dealt with in more depth, for example the delineation of the Exclusive Economic Zones of Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. Geopolitical and strategic perspectives are described and seen within the regional context. By doing this, controversial interpretations of the Geneva Convention of 1958 and the United Nations Conventions on the Law of the See (UNCLOS) are underscored. In this context, the Cyprus Problem is an important factor because it poses new questions with regards to the use of the resources by both the Turkish and Greek Cypriots. Besides these topics other aspects such as good governance and resource management are discussed.
