Abstract
The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has developed a comprehensive framework for advancing gender equality in elected office, identifying areas for intervention: constitutional rules, electoral system, legal quotas, parliamentary reform, party rules and recruitment procedures and capacity development. The present paper studies the Hungarian structures alongside this six-step framework to gain a comprehensive view of the different formal and informal mechanisms preventing women from aiming for and gaining parliamentary mandate.
