Abstract
A comparison of pension systems in different countries shows that those with income- and contribution-dependent regularizations, to which Germany belongs, are less effective in reaching gender equality and preventing poverty. Experiences of other countries show how a universal basic pension, supplemented with mandatory occupational pensions can serve as a model for Germany to execute the already initiated renunciation of a conservative welfare state towards a just, supportive and solid pension system.
