Zusammenfassung
Sixty-seven years after Independence, India’s democracy seems to have entered a qualitatively different, more mature phase that has been ushered in by the 16th general election to the lower house (Lok Sabha) of its Parliament. About 800 million voters across the country elected the 543 Members of Parliament in an election that took place in nine stages, from April 7 to May 12. All the 15 general elections in the past were smooth and have led to peaceful political transitions. Barring a few hiccups, the 16th general election, a true ‘festival of democracy’, also stuck to that tradition. This election clearly underscored the enormous depth of the Indian democracy in a mostly undemocratic neighbourhood. For the first time in three decades, a political party, in this case, the BJP, was able to win more than a majority of seats in the Lok Sabha.

What have been major policy pronouncements in economic, foreign policy, and governance issues Though 100 days may be too short a period in assessing the performance of any government, this paper makes an objective attempt to highlight some prominent issues.
