Abstract
Inequality within EU countries increased in most member states in 2014, especially in Germany. The paper is analysing latest available social cohesion data of the EU from 2014. Cohesion across the EU has made no progress, even if growth in the poorest countries has been somewhat above the EU average. The better off social strata benefit most from rather weak overall growth. Social development remains dire in the Mediterranean countries, where the poorest strata are particularly hard hit by austerity policies.
