As the media vastly influences the process of political opinion formation, the survey conducted by Mérték Media Monitoring aims to provide statistic information on media consumption trends within the Hungarian society. Therefore, the survey compares data collected in 2014/15 and 2016. As a result, Mérték concluded that no dramatic changes in the selection of information sources have occurred and consumption habits remain stable. The survey has shown that TV is still predominantly used to access political/public news, while internet channels like facebook primarily serve the need of youngsters. Only the rapid fall in regular newspaper readers is outstanding (fall from 34% to 24% of daily readers within 2015). Furthermore, the survey examines the authenticity of media tools and the level of satisfaction with news-coverage among the Hungarian population. As an outcome, the majority of adults (57%) declared to be discontent with the currently available information sources, which is partly due to Fidesz enormous leverage on media reports. Another trend recognized is the search for opinions that comply with personal political beliefs and notions.
