In Europe and Africa, migration has become one of the most frequently discussed and controversial topics with images of flimsy boats and drowning migrants in the news. These discussions have created a new dynamic in the Africa-EU partnership on migration. The Valletta summit, organised in November 2015, is the most visible sign of this. However, even if there is new political interest and momentum, which manifests itself in the Valletta Action Plan, there are still many areas in which the two partners hold significantly different views. Against this background, the FES and CCPAU organised the international conference Migration: In it for the long run? in order to provide a platform to discuss contentious issues and deepen polticial dialog.
