Zusammenfassung
Seven years after people across the Arab world took to the streets during the Arab spring uprisings to call for political reforms, justice and political participation, hopes for a better future have been largely dissipated. This is particularly true for women, with violence against women and girls being heightened and womens participation in decision-making processes remaining strikingly low in the context of conflict and crisis. Especially in formal peace and security processes, where women play marginal roles at best, they are being denied the right to take part in decisions that will shape the future of their societies. The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Musawa/ Womens Studies Center held a three-day conference in November 2017, at which academics, especially from the field of political science, sociology and anthropology, political activists as well as practitioners from the field of civil society/ womens rights movements discussed womens involvement in peace, security and transition processes in the Arab world. The articles in this volume are the outcome of these discussions.
