The book argues that Womens and Girls education and schooling has to be explored and analyzed beyond the questions of school access, the number of years spent in education, and existing measures of learning attainment. Existing curricula too often support a patriarchal ideology which constructs woman as a powerless object with a life confined to the domestic sphere. The book examines how the public school may become a platform for womens self-empowerment leading to autonomy. This book also suggests that feminism and feminist movements - particularly in Thailand continually challenge male knowledge constructions and teaching pedagogy. Feminist pedagogy as a political tool needs to be revisited and employed in womens public education.
