Zusammenfassung
Social Protection mechanisms play a very vital role in reducing poverty and inequality. Ghana has drafted a Social Protection bill for consideration into law by the parliament of Ghana. The bill is currently in the review phase. In this light, the Civil Society Platform for Social Protection (CSPSP) Ghana with the support the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Ghana office engaged a consultant to review the draft bill together with CSPSP members as their input towards the review to make the bill more inclusive. A policy brief was developed and submitted to the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection as well as key government agencies and civil society organisations. In the policy brief, the author identifies gaps in the Social Protection Policy (2015) and Social Protection (Bill 2020) through stakeholder engagements. Further, the author discusses the challenges with existing Social Protections programmes and a review of the legal and financial framework, complaints/appeals mechanism as well as the offences therein. Finally, the author makes recommendations on how to improve the Bill under review.
