Bengaluru, once a pensioner’s paradise and a city of lakes, is now the Silicon Valley of India and one of the largest and most important metropolitan cities in the country. However, the city’s rapid urban development is not complemented by sustainable mobility advancements. Despite its reputation as the Garden City of India, Bengaluru, according to findings from various international surveys over the past decade, has fared poorly on indicators for city living, mobility and congestion.
In this paper, Yamini Jain, presents a portrait the situation of mobility of Bengaluru and the city’s efforts to shift to safe, inclusive, affordable, equitable, and sustainable mobility systems through different policy measures with active involvement of the private sector and various citizen groups and advocacy groups.
