Zusammenfassung
Urbanization is rapidly manifesting in Kenya via an infrastructure boom especially in the capital and secondary cities of Kenya. This boom has consequences for a majority of the urban informal settlements because the land they occupy is either public or lacks ownership documentation. This puts them at risk of forced evictions and lack of compensation. Urban regularization can help remedy this but many affected persons either lack knowledge on how to engage in the process, or the duty bearer’s policy framework has gaps. This publication is a simple guide on how to engage in the process and secure land rights and tenure while making policy improvement recommendations. It’s a culmination of joint efforts to address the problem by the Just City Coalition, Housing Coalition and The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Kenya Office.
