Zusammenfassung
In this paper we analyse the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and measures implemented to contain virus on gender equality in Cyprus. The COVID-19 pan-
demic and related policy measures appear to have affected women disproportionally and exacerbating labour market inequalities and work-life balance. The existing
childcare gap widened due to the suspension of in-school teaching and, as a result, women have been filling the gap in childcare, with consequences on their careers,
wellbeing, and safety. Furthermore, as a result of the health measures taken by the government to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, reported domestic
violence increased in Cyprus by up to 58%.
