  • Two migration policy models are regularly held up as exempla in the German debate: the Danish model based on restrictions and the Spanish model based on regularisation. While some point to Danish social democrats’ success with winning back voters using restrictive immigration policy, others see Spain’s more positive approach as an alternative. The present paper examines the political economy of immigration policy narratives. How do economic structures, institutional arrangements and historical paths influence how people talk about migration?
