As the newly published FES analysis �A Lockdown for Independent Media?� illustrates COVID�19 has undermined the media sector�s sustainability at a time when it is most sorely needed. The author of this FES briefing argues that the the European Commission and EU member states have a very powerful instrument through regulation of digital platforms to correct the market failures and contribute to the healthiness of the information ecosystems in member states and the wider European neighbourhood.
