Israel, Cyprus and Greece are well-known as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East due to their geographical and cultural situation. Considering social, political and economic change in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean during the last decade, their role regarding European interests has only increased. At the same time, the democracies of Cyprus, Greece and Israel are also affected by the rising authoritarian regimes in the region. Hence, the goal of the publication Promoting Liberal Democracies in the Eastern Mediterranean is to foster democracy and rule of law in these three countries by identifying possibilities of trilateral cooperation in civil and governmental areas while also adding a normative element to the discourse.
