In March 2020, the European Commission issued a draft proposal for a »New comprehensive strategy with Africa« that aims at building a »political alliance« for tackling common challenges. The goal of a reinvigorated role for the EU in Africa raises the question of the new plan�s consistency with the Africa policies of the different EU Member States. Despite sharing significant common ground, there are differences in how individual EU countries relate to Africa � and between their approaches and the EU�s � in terms of priorities, narratives and tools. The paper recommends a number of ways to improve the alignment.
