ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Projects such as Mapping the Working Class involve many people both within and outside the Friedrich-EbertStiftung, from the initial idea to the realisation, publication and conclusion of the project. The authors’ thanks go to all those who helped and supported us along the way and made this project possible. Although we can’t list everyone here some people warrant particular mention and thanks: Anne-Kathrin Vitt and Christoph Döbele of Kantar-Public(now Verian), who as project contact persons were always available to answer our questions and address our concerns, and with whom were able to carry out the exciting qualitative and quantitative survey. Anne Lehmann, who took part in some of the focus groups as graphic recorder and documented the discussions with her fantastic drawings. We used some of the pictures to illustrate this publication. Héctor Labat for his elaborate and speedy ISCO coding of the open occupational enquiry. Thomas Lux and Linus Westheuser, who advised us on the creation of the quantitative questionnaire and also helped us with advice on the analysis. Kathrin Fiedler, who created numerous figures, tables and regressions for us, which made up a large part of the analytical work. We would also like to mention Marko Miljevic, who also created figures, made calculations and identified errors in graphics. Another trouble-shooter and reliable assistant with regard to all issues and concerns related to statistical evaluation was Ludwig List, our colleague in Vienna, who despite many other tasks was a key pillar of the project. The fantastic support from Elena Kalter, Judith Vrenegor and Jonas Kamps has also not been forgotten. We have presented our findings from the various stages and discussed them on various occasions with experts from trade unions, politics and academia. We would therefore like to thank everyone involved for the exchanges of views and the many good ideas and questions that we were able to incorporate into the project. We were in particularly close contact with Torben Schwuchow, Aiko Wagner, Thorsten Faas and Jürgen Schmidt, who contributed their own analyses to the»Mapping the Working Class« project and from whom we were able to learn a great deal. Among the many colleagues who supported the project, we would like to give particular mention to Nicole Loew, who parental leave prevented from seeing the project through to completion, and Constanze Yakar, who managed all administrative and organisational aspects of the project in the Analysis and Planning Unit. Special thanks are also due to Susan Javad, Advisor for Labour, Qualifications and Codetermination in the FES Analysis, Planning and Consulting division for her feedback in various phases of the project. Last but not least, we would like to thank all those who supported us during the intensive final phase of the project or helped to make up for our absences and inattention elsewhere.
