Iraq is currently lagging be­hind its regional peers in the development of renewable energy technologies and has no distinct strategy to develop the renewable energy sector. A shift towards a sustainable energy system could help Iraq secure a reliable and afforda­ble electricity supply, achieve cost savings and create long­term opportunities for eco­nomic development.
