Zusammenfassung
How is it possible that (mainly white) women are voting for the second time for Donald Trump, a candidate who is conspicuous for his sexist and misogynistic behaviour, hypermasculine performance and anti-feminist policies? Our author, US professor Dr. Cynthia Miller-Idriss, provides an explanation: For white evangelical women, Trump has delivered on important promises. But the country is deeply divided: For at the same time, progressive women have gained significant influence and launched initiatives that strongly influenced the 2020 election. "The divide that runs through the US on gender issues is just one part of a complicated story of a nation polarised and divided on other issues as well."
In this short study, Dr Cynthia Miller-Idriss examines the intertwining of race and gender in the election campaign and tenure of the recently voted out US (ex)president Donald Trump. In particular, she examines the role that white women played in the election and shows that they were increasingly mobilised through their white privilege.
